Crowded New York III:
I thought it would be good to show the original sketch and the finished drawing for Crowded New York III side by side. Now that I’m seeing the original drawing, I miss the bricks on the building behind the crowds and cars.
These two drawings are sketches for another illustration for the Crowded series I’m currently working on.
I recently made the mistake of going out to eat in New York City on a Saturday night. The food was great but my fellow diners were comprised mainly of peoples asses in my face as I sat at my table while other patrons stood at the bar.
This is the final drawing for Crowded: Restaurant Scene. I cropped tighter on the top of the drawings to make it seem a little more crowded but left the walls and the bottles to make sure I let everyone know where the scene is taking place. Also the look of disgust on the face of the woman eating drives home the opinion of the illustration. I think this may be the first image I will make into a postcard for this particular series.
This is the half way point in the illustration. The base colors are all present and I’m using a hand painted layer behind all the action in the restaurant to suggest a little more atmosphere. I may alter some of the basic colors as I add more hand painted elements to this drawing to get to a finish.
This is by no means a slam against The Spotted Pig restaurant, but this could be used as an illustration/journalism piece about it on any Saturday night. The food is so good but it’s very hard to enjoy yourself.
