In the beginning, Bumba was all alone in the water. He got sick and vomited up the sun, moon, stars, and land. He vomited up nine animals: a leopard, an eagle, a crocodile, a fish, a tortoise, lightning, a white heron, a scarab and a goat. The last thing that he vomited was mankind. The animals and Bumba’s three sons then created plants and the rest of the animals.
All the elements for the Boshongo Creation Myth I’ve been working on are finally coming together. Now on to color.
This definitely reminds me of print books (remember those?) with pieces of vellum over fantastic illustrated images that just aren’t made anymore. Maybe the Ipad will resurrect the tradition?
Some more sketches for a creation myth I’m working on. This particular myth is the Bushongo myth.
It goes:
In the beginning, there was nothing but water and Bumba, the Bushongo god, was alone. One day Bumba was in terrible pain. He retched and he strained and then suddenly the sun came up out of his mouth.
