Sometimes I miss painting.

Cut paper, xerox copy with acrylic paint.

From The Vault:
I’m bummed out that I don’t have a high res file of this because I gave the original away. Not sure of the year (2001 or 2002 sounds about right).
It was during that phase of the annoying American realization that our way of living comes with consequences. I remember being disgusted with people when they would get that look in their eye like they were about to say something intelligent and instead asked plaintively “why do they hate us so much?”

This was way back (nine years ago?) when I used “paint” and “brushes”. My apartments were usually a mess because I didn’t have a studio space and my girlfriends hated me for it. Boy…those weren’t the days.
I’m not sure who this guy was. An art director told me that it looked like his grandfather. Yikes!

I don’t paint with gooey stuff and brushes anymore. Perhaps in the future I will again.
A Shelly Duvall portrait I did inspired by Robert Altman’s 3 Women. The frame is refurbished-I found it on the street.
This is the first painting of my portrait series Jolie Laide. The whole series started because I found an amazing frame at a stoop sale in Brooklyn. The size and hues of the portraits are determined by the frame.
This is one of a series of paintings I’m working on called Jolie Laide. The inspiration for this portrait is from Robert Altman’s 3 Women.
